compact newspaper

compact newspaper
The term for a broadsheet, quality newspaper printed in a tabloid format. It came into use in its current form when The Independent began producing a smaller-format edition for London’s commuters, designed to be easier to read on the bus, train or tube. The Independent, The Times and The Scotsman all now use the format. The Guardian has similarly reduced its size, now publishing in a larger format than the others, known as a Berliner.
